Bandits kill 4 policemen in Kaduna

Policemen on their way for an operation at Jankaska village in Igabi local government area of Kaduna State were ambushed and four of them shot dead.

The four were said to have died during a gun duel with some bandits on Saturday morning in Jankasa village, Rigasa.

The policemen had hardly arrived at their destination when the gunmen who unknown to them had laid an ambush opened fire on them.

The police were said to have tried to repel the attackers but lost four men in the battle.

The spokesman of the Kaduna state police command, Yakubu Sabo, confirmed the incident in a text message.

He said the incident occurred around 6:30am on Saturday when the Inspection General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Rapid Response Team (IRT), was in the area for an operation.

He said: "At about 0630hrs of Saturday, a team of detectives attached to IGP IRT while on operation along Jankasa village of Rigasa Kaduna, were ambushed by armed bandits.

"After a fierce gun battle, four of our policemen paid the supreme sacrifice" 

He said a reinforcement has been mobilised  to the area, with the view to bringing the perpetrators to book, saying “no arrest has been made yet.”

He said the police is doing everything possible to fish out the hoodlums and bring them to justice.
