Bandits have reportedly opened fire on two friends riding a motorcycle, injuring one Abdulkarim Ibrahim along the Katari–Gurara Dam road in the Kachia LGA of Kaduna State.
A local resident, Rabiu Bello, said the incident occurred on Saturday around 6:40 pm.
Abdulkarim and his friend, identified as Garba Bala, were traveling from Katari toward Gidan Kaura village near Hayin-Dam when bandits suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire, hitting Abdulkarim in the leg.
Despite the bullet wound, Abdulkarim managed to reach Hayin-Dam village, where he was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
A community leader, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed the incident to our reporter via telephone.
He stated that the bandits opened fire after the victims refused to stop the motorcycle. He added that as soon as he received word of the attack, he alerted security operatives at the Sabon-Kurutu junction.
“I am not sure if the security operatives responded immediately, as I received the call just as I was about to break my fast. I was told bandits had blocked the Katari–Hayin-Dam road and shot a man who was riding a bike with his friend,” he said.
A security source, also speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident and noted that the bandits escaped into the bush before security forces arrived at the scene.
“Security operatives are currently combing the forest to trace the bandits’ hideout,” the source added.
The spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, was yet to confirm the incident at the time of filing this report.
