Bandits have raided four villages—Kohoto, Janjala, Gidan-Makeri, and Iddo—in the Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A resident of the Janjala community, Saidu Bala, said the incident occurred on Thursday around 3pm when a large number of bandits, wielding sophisticated weapons, attacked the villages.
He stated that the gunmen first invaded four herders’ camps across the villages, rustling several cows amid sporadic gunfire.
He further explained that the bandits returned around 6 pm the same day, invading the house of one Alhaji Kago Adamu and abducting three persons.
He said the gang then proceeded to the home of one Alhaji Marti Yakubu, where they whisked away two more people, before abducting another individual at Gidan-Makeri village.
According to Bala, the bandits operated for nearly an hour without any intervention from security operatives.
A community leader from the area, who preferred anonymity for security reasons, confirmed the incident to our reporter via telephone on Saturday.
He stated that upon receiving information about the invasion, he quickly alerted security operatives in Kagarko town, but received no response.
“Immediately after I received the distress call, I alerted the security operatives at Kagarko, but they didn’t respond until the bandits had finished their operation and left with their victims,” he said.
The community leader identified the abductees as Maryam Shehu, Safiyanu Adamu, Alhaji Ali Jafaru, Aisha Basiru, Jauro Muhammad, and Marry Ayuba.
He disclosed that contact is yet to be established with the abductors, expressing deep concern over the worsening security situation across rural communities in the area.
While a police source in the area confirmed the incident, they declined to provide further details.
As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur, could not be reached for comment.
