Bandits have reportedly raided several communities in Kachia Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State, killing a herder, a vigilante and abducting 11 other villagers.

A community leader in the area, who confirmed the incident while speaking to our reporter on the telephone on Wednesday, gave the names of the herder as Sulaiman Aliyu and the vigilante as Gideon Yero Markus.

He said the incident happened on Tuesday, around 4:23 pm when the bandits, wielding AK-47 rifles, invaded Arikon, Kaura, Goshe-Gudu, Sabon-Kurutu, Poluwire, and Kushe-Makaranta villages in Kachia LGA of the state.

He said the bandits moved in droves from one community to another and abducted the victims at gunpoint.

He added that the vigilante member was gunned down while trying to engage the bandits.

“The herder, who was on his way back to his settlement after going round the bush to tend his cows, was also killed in the process and his cows were rustled,” he said.

He gave the names of those abducted as Joel Angwan Toka, James Kaura, Tabou Cozy Ariko, Zana Ali, Daniel Garba, Emmanuel Kushen, Fatima Saleh, Libabatu Saleh, Saleh Ishaya, Muhammad Musa, and Tanimu Gayya.

According to him, some of the victims were whisked away while returning from their farms, and the troops have been alerted about the incident.

A member of Arikon community, Zakius Bala, also said the bandits raided some shops and carted away foodstuffs and other provisions.

It would be recalled that bandits, on Monday, invaded Goshe-Gudu community under Kagarko LGA and abducted a Catholic priest while killing a resident in the area.

A police source in Kachia confirmed the incident, saying a search operation is already ongoing.

The spokesperson of the Kaduna state police command, ASP Hassan Mansur, has yet to comment on the incident.
