Bank affected, Customer’s vehicle razed as fire guts Abuja filling station

A customer lost his car when fire gut an A A Rano Filling Station along Nyanya/Karu axis of the Keffi-Abuja expressway, on Tuesday.

The outbreak, which lasted for over an hour, affected the filling station’s tank and an Access Bank nearby.

A staff member of the fuel station told Daily Trust that the fire was caused by extreme heat from the ground, during the discharge operation from a tank to the belowground storage.

The witness noted that all forms of safety measures were taken before the discharge of the Premium Motor Spirits (PMS).

“When they brought the tanker, the staff began to offload it underground, then just like that, the fire just came from below,

“Even access bank that is close to the bank, the back building of access bank too is affected, but it didn’t affect the bank that much,” a witness said

Meanwhile, several law enforcers, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the police were present at the scene, alongside fire extinguishers to quench the fire.

The Karu Fire Service Area Commander, Engr Ezeh G.C, said they got no distress call from the filling station but from several commuters.

“We received a running call to the office from good citizens. We came with 10,000 liters of water to stop the fire. Although we didn’t get a distress call from the filling station because the network as at when the fire started was blocked,” he said.

Daily Trust reports that no death was recorded but some parts of the filling station got burnt along with a customer’s vehicle.
