The Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria (AMMBAN) has reaffirmed its commitment to driving financial inclusion and digital innovation as it marked its 10th anniversary and 9th national conference in Gombe.
The gathering brought together policymakers, financial institutions, fintech innovators, and thousands of bank agents to assess progress and set new goals for Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Acting National President of AMMBAN, Dr Obisha Oti, said the association’s decade-long journey reflects the remarkable transformation of Nigeria’s financial sector since the introduction of agency banking in 2013.
He explained that agency banking, once viewed as an experiment, has evolved into a key driver of inclusion, connecting millions of Nigerians in both urban and rural communities to essential financial services such as deposits, withdrawals, bill payments, and fund transfers.
“Today, agents are the heartbeat of financial inclusion. From market traders to farmers, Nigerians now have access to banking services within their neighbourhoods. It is one of the most significant revolutions in our nation’s financial history,” Oti said.
Chairman of AMMBAN’s Board of Trustees, Mr Victor Olojo, lauded members for their dedication and professionalism, saying AMMBAN has grown into a formidable national institution, linking communities to the formal economy.
He urged agents to embrace innovation and uphold integrity as the association enters its second decade.
