No fewer than 500 detectives from the Explosive Ordnance Depot (EOD) have been deployed to Ife and Offa in Osun and Kwara states to conduct post blast investigations on robbery and explosions that occurred in banks in the areas.

A gang of armed robbers had on April 5, 2018, invaded commercial banks in Offa, Kwara State, killing some people, including policemen, bank customers and market people. 

The robbers, who also carted away unspecified amounts of money, allegedly broke into the banks using explosives.

The police said those deployed were tasked to ascertain, among other things, if the explosives used by the robbers were Improvised Explosive Device (IED) or mare petrol bombs. 

EOD Command’s Commissioner of Police, Gabriel Oyodele Oguntuase, said preliminary investigation conducted at the scene of crime showed that explosives used by the bandits during the attack were not commercial explosives going by the smoke which engulfed the bank at Offa before they went off. 

He said the command was not leaving any stone unturned in its investigation so as to get to the root of the matter.
