A 28-year-old banker, Mr Saheed Adebanjo, was arraigned in Ikorodu on Thursday for stealing N2.6 million belonging to his employer. Saheed, whose address was not known, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing before an Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State.

The Prosecutor, Sgt John Iberem, told the court that the accused committed the offences in May at No 5, Elepe Road, Ikorodu. He said that the accused stole the sum of N2.6 million belonging to Asha Microfinance Bank, his employer.

“The suspect obtained the money with pretext of paying the money to bank customers, a representation known to be false,” Iberem said.  He said that the offences contravened Sections 314 and 280 (1) of the Criminal Code, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.  The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr E.O. Ogunkanmi, granted the accused N1 million bail and two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until Oct. 11, for further hearing (NAN)
