Jifiya, his wife Lydia and four children who embarked on a family vacation to London and New York in August, 2012 paid for return tickets but could not fly as planned due to the cancelation of the trips by the airways, they said.
In a statement of claims filed before a Federal High Court in Abuja, Jifiya wants the sum of N11.2 million in compensation to cover unspent money for the flights, legal fees and general damages.
Mr Jifiya claims that on August 22, 2012 he bought tickets for the sum of N6.1 million to fly from Abuja through London to New York and back to Abuja on same route, but was left stranded at the Heathrow airport in London on August 29, 2012 without any explanation.
“After passing through undue and unwarranted stress, I was forced to squeeze out and buy six new tickets at the sum of $42,668. After our stay in New York, I and my family were again forced by the defendant to take separate flights back to Heathrow thereby causing undue emotional and psychological stress just as they had done at the Heathrow airport,” he said.
