Represented by Chairman of the House committee on Defence, Rep. Oluwole Oke (PDP, Osun), the Speaker disclosed that, Nigeria was well prepared for such insurrection even though he does not see that happening as evident by the successful transitions between democratically elected leadership  from 1999 to date. “The armed forces have adopted democratic culture. They have been transformed, professionalized and deeply restricted to their professional duties. The military have regretted ever dabbling into governance based on the experiences of democracy in the country,” he explained.

The speaker further disclosed that, Nigeria’s defence budget is currently 10 percent of the total national budget, this he said was because the nation was in a relative peace  saying, “the defence allocation mainly goes into training and retraining of personnel, and the country’s efforts at foreign peace-keeping missions.”
