Bankole who was on the last minute campaign in the constituency had covered all major areas in the state capital before trouble started when returning in the evening at Isabo area at about 7.30pm. According to eye witness account, trouble started when some street urchins demanded money from the Speaker before he could be allowed to campaign in the area. But, while some were allegedly given, other groups also made spirited moves for their own even as the convoy was making desperate manoeuvre out of the area. “From nowhere, we started hearing gunshots which eventually hit one Samuel Kolawole who is a judicial worker with state High Court in Isabo Abeokuta.”
The Special Adviser to the Speaker on Communications, Kayode Odunaro said that some political urchins in the area were responsible for the attack, lamenting that only God saved the team on the night.
