Daddy Owen from Kenya will be breaking the norm as the first ever gospel artiste to perform at the MAMA Awards as South Africa’s trio Teargas comprising Ntokozo “K.O.” Mdluli and brothers Ezee “Ma-E” Hanabe and Bantu “Ntukza” Hanabe, represents the best of South African Hip-Hop on their debut, MAMA. Following his thrilling collaboration with Mozambique’s Lizha James and Uganda’s Blu3 at last year’s awards in Kenya, Congolese icon Fally Ipupa will be making his second appearance this year.
According to the organisers, all four are “thrilling performers that epitomize the awesome spirit and passion of contemporary African musicians.  Their involvement in this year’s awards is sure to guarantee that 2010 will be the most creatively, inspiring and exciting MAMA event so far.”
Banky W is recipient of various awards including the Nigerian Entertainment Award, the John Lennon Foundation Songwriting Award and the Urban Independent Music Award for R&B/Soul.
Giving Soukous, Ndombolo, pop and R&B a new and appealing twist, Fally Ipupa has over thirty two released pieces of creative works to his credit. With collaborations with the legendary Koffi Olomide who has also been a driving force for him, he is regarded as one of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s great voice exports.
Famous for his Kapungala, Kapuka and Lingala blend as is evident in his songs Tobina and Kiriro, Daddy Owen has received wide recognition and won him awards as Male Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year.
The Teargas group is the 2010 recipient for Best Rap Album at South African Music Awards for tracks from their third album ‘Dark or Blue’ released in 2009.
