The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, has magnanimously paid the registration fees for all the 66 clubs in the state for this year’s Nationwide League One (NLO) competition.
It will be recalled that the Senator had extended this same gesture to the clubs last year, following the request of the leadership of the Nationwide League One Football Clubs Forum, Kano State chapter.
Senator Barau announced the payment of the 2026 registration fees amounting to N25m and the donation of three vehicles to the Nationwide League One (NLO) Kano Forum; the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kano Chapter and the Kano State Football Referees Council when the associations paid him a courtesy call at the National Assembly, Abuja on Tuesday, April 29, 2026.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, said the associations led by Salisu Ibrahim (Alhaji Danladi), a veteran sports personality, commended Senator Barau for what they called “outstanding contributions to sports and youth development in the country.”
“We are here to sincerely appreciate everything you are doing for us. Honestly, we have no Senator like you in the whole of Nigeria. Your commitment to youth development and sports is unmatched,” said Ibrahim.
Responding, Senator Barau thanked the associations for the recognition and reiterated his commitment to the development of sports and youth.
He said “Nothing is too much for our youths, hence my numerous interventions in education, youth development and sports. I will continue to do this with all zeal.”
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of an award of excellence to Senator Barau in recognition of his contributions to the development of sports and youth in the country.
