Barau FC beat Rangers 2-0, ease relegation worries
Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) new boys, Barau FC were in imperious form as they eased their relegation worries with a convincing 2-0 victory over Enugu Rangers in the week 13 fixture played yesterday at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kano.
Before the first-ever contest between the two clubs in the NPFL, Barau FC were second from the bottom on the 20-club league table but the victory moved them to 16th position with a game in hand.
Muhammad Umar scored the opening goal for Barau FC in the 25th minute to put his side on the path of victory in the keenly contested fixture.
The hosts went on break with the slender lead but on resumption, Joseph Kemin, headed in Bismark’s perfect cross in the 52nd minute to double the lead for the “Maliya boys.”
Rangers mounted pressure to at least reduce the deficit, but Barau FC maintained their defensive solidity while deploying counter-attacking moves till the blow of the referee’s final whistle.
The win over Enugu Rangers was Barau FC’s third victory in 12 matches.
Their other two victories came against city rivals Kano Pillars and away at Kun Khalifat.
They have also drawn four and lost five matches, including the 0-1 home loss to Warri Wolves in week 7.
Barau FC will host CAF Champions League campaigners, Rivers United in the rescheduled week 5 fixture on Wednesday, November 19.
Victory against Rivers United will further reduce Barau FC’s relegation worries.
