Resurgent Barau FC stormed to an emphatic 2-0 victory over Abia Warriors in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) week 30 match played yesterday at the iconic Sani Abacha Stadium kano.

The “Maliya boy” who suffered a narrow 0-1 loss to city rivals Kano Pillars last Sunday put their acts together to outclass Abia Warriors with two first half goals as they continued with their upward movement after initial struggles in the Nigerian topflight.

Following the victory, the coach Eugene Agagbe tutored side has moved to the top half of the table as they now occupy the 9th position with 40 points from 10 wins, 10 draws and 10 losses.

Meanwhile, Kano Pillars have brightened their chances of survival as they forced Niger Tornadoes to a goalless draw to move above the relegation waters as they are now 16th on the table with 36 points.

Katsina United also recovered from last week’s shocking home defeat to force El-kanemi Warriors to a 1-1 draw in Maiduguri; title contenders Enugu Rangers drew 0-0 at Kwara United to close the gap on leaders Rivers United, while Bayelsa United recorded a 2-1 victory over Warri Wolves at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

Another title contender, Nasarawa United slipped in Ikenne where they were defeated 2-1 by Remo Stars- the title holders who are now relegation-threatened.

After a barren first half in the keenly contested tie, Stanley Joseph put the defending champions ahead in the 62nd minute, Dauda Suleiman drew the “Solid miners” level in the 83rd minute, but five minutes later, Michael Okoro Ibe sealed the maximum points for Remo Stars.

Meanwhile, Wikki Tourists’ fight against relegation suffered a serious setback after they were beaten 3-2 by 3SC in Ibadan.

The “Bauchi Elephants” put up a gallant fight but fell to Al Amin Al Ameen’s 83rd minute strike after Abba Musa and John Taiwo had cancelled out Sodiq Ibrahim and Lucky Emmanuel’s first half goals.

The defeat has left Wikki Tourists fourth from the bottom with 35 points as they continue with their struggle against relegation under new Technical Adviser, Evans Ogenyi.
