Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has announced plans to expand foreign scholarship opportunities for more youths in Kano State.

Barau’s Chief of Staff, Prof. Muhammad Ibn Abdullahi, disclosed this during a reception held for 26 students sponsored by the lawmaker for postgraduate studies in India.

He said the beneficiaries, who studied specialised courses such as forensic science, artificial intelligence and other ICT-related fields, all graduated with outstanding results.

“This is just the first batch of students sponsored to India and other countries. More beneficiaries are expected to return between May and June, while additional foreign scholarship opportunities are also being arranged,” Abdullahi said.

According to him, the programme is fully funded, covering tuition, stipends and other expenses, and is aimed at equipping young people with globally competitive skills.

He noted that the initiative extends beyond Kano North Senatorial District, cutting across the state, and aligns with global trends prioritising ICT and emerging technologies.

Abdullahi added that expanding access to international education remains a key strategy for addressing unemployment, insecurity and other socio-economic challenges.

He expressed optimism that the graduates would apply their knowledge to drive development in their communities and urged them to remain committed to supporting efforts aimed at widening access to education.
