Omo-Osagie gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Lagos at a two-day basketball coaching clinic organised by the Lagos State Basketball Association.

The clinic, sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, is for coaches in the National Sports Commission (NSC) Zone I, comprising Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Osun and Ekiti states.

Omo-Osagie said that for them to produce players who could win laurels for the country at local and international competitions, they must be familiar with the rudiments of basketball.

“Basketball is a very viable and lucrative game which cannot be taught by coaches, who do not have its understanding.

“The techniques and modalities of a sport are the most important aspects of it, if these can be embraced by coaches, they will produce good players,’’ Omo-Osagie said.

He also urged federal and state governments to ensure that coaches were well remunerated.

NAN reports that 30 participants from the six states are participating in the clinic.
