The Bauchi State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar has released 20 inmates during her 2018 first and second quarter visit to  prisons across the State.‎

 

A statement by Bauchi state command of Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS),  DSP Adam Abubakar Jibrin stated that the state Chief Judge ordered the release of the 20 awaiting trial inmates from various prisons in the state.

 

According to the statement, the State Chief Judge and members of the Administration of Criminal justice committee visited prisons in Misau, Zaki, Azare, Jama’are and Ningi Prisons and ended at the Bauchi Prison over the weekend. 

 

The statement quoted the Chief Judge expressing concern on the lack of proper record of cases for some of the inmates and the delay in obtaining legal advise from the State Ministry for Justice were the main causes of unnecessary overstay of  inmates in prisons.

 

She therefore called on the agencies concerned to make necessary amends to address congestion in prisons.

 

 She commended the State Government for its support towards the success of the exercise.

 

In his address, the Controller of Prisons Bauchi State Command, CP Suleiman T. Suleiman, commended the Chief Judge for the visit and called on the released inmates to be of good behaviour and avoid committing crime again.
