Bauchi state is to appeal a court judgment that a civil servant accused of embezzling N8m in proceeds from sale of vehicle plate numbers has no case to answer.

Kabiru Ahmed, a staff of Bauchi State Inland Revenue Board, was taken to court on embezzlement charges, but presiding judge, Mu’azu Abubakar ruled Kabiru was discharged and acquitted.

Prosecuting counsel, Barrister Haruna Ibrahim said Kabiru was a staff of (BIRB)  entrusted with motor plates number money worth millions of Naira.

"The Board sets up a committee to investigate how monies realize from sales of vehicles plates numbers was remitted in the banks and Kabiru was found wanting, who did not remitted over N8 Million naira to the Bank from the sales," he said.

"We are not satisfied with the judgment, we will file a notice of appeal that will transmit to the court of Appeal Jos, with all the witnesses we see whether he has a case or not," Haruna said.

Kabiru’s lawyer Ben Ogbuche said, “Well they have reason to go for appeal but it won’t make any difference, this is third time the case was discharged, first it was struck out at the Magistrate court and dismissed at the High court and now discharge and acquitted at the High court 8 in Bauchi.”

He added that they have no fear since they have won their case.

"Let them carry on with the appeal and see," the counsel added.
