Civil servants in Bauchi state have decried illegal deductions from their January salaries which they said was not explained.

Workers alleged that monies ranging from N1,000 to N5,000 in some cases have been deducted from their salaries for unexplained reason.

The State Government however debunked the allegation that certain percentage has been deducted from worker’s salaries.

The State Accountant General, Garba Maigamo who debunked the allegation said that only N500 was deducted for printing of identification cards for the public servants.

"Already, the office of the head of civil service has reached an agreement with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC in the state on the deduction of N1000 for civil servants Identity Cards in January and February salaries"

"In case there is any civil servant whose deduction is more than N500, he should report to the office of the head of civil service for clarification" he said

He therefore called on people to desist from spreading rumours  saying that the present administration was poised at protecting the rights of the citizens of the state.

Similarly, the Bauchi State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said that it will provide a unified identification cards for all civil servants on government payroll to compliment state government effort in checking the menace of ghost workers.

The State NLC Chairman, Hasimu Gital Mohammed told journalists that the decision to produce the unified staff identification card was reached during a state executive council meeting of the Union.

The card will hold secret codes and personal information of holders for identification and to be used during emergencies and screening.The Chairman said a committee will be constituted with members from office of the head of civil service and representatives from ministries, departments and agencies. 

He said that it was agreed during the state executive council meeting that N1000 will be deducted from January and February salaries of each civil servant for the production of Identification cards.
