Inaugurating the committee yesterday in Bauchi, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the council, Alhaji Lawal Baba Maaji Abubakar, urged members of the committee to help stop the illegal cutting of trees for making charcoal and timber in the area so as to protect their lands and environment, adding that the state government is disturbed over the illegal act.
He said illegal cutting of trees will spoil the land and therefore urged the public to, at least, plant a tree every year to protect the environment from desert encroachment.
The chairman of the committee, who is the Divisional Police Officer Tafawa Balewa Estate, Ali Ahmed, expressed their readiness to stop illegal cutting of trees in the area. He said the committee will not allow enemies of environment to spoil the land.
