The Bauchi State Government has flagged off the 2026 dry season farming programme, including the sale of fertiliser and other agricultural inputs to irrigation farmers.

Governor Bala Mohammed launched the programme at Sarma village in Akuyam District of Misau Local Government Area, reiterating his administration’s commitment to irrigation, modern farming techniques and year-round agricultural production.

He said agricultural investment in the state has grown significantly, with large-scale farmers cultivating thousands of hectares using irrigation and modern technology. According to him, many political leaders have also embraced farming as a sustainable business venture.

Earlier, Commissioner for Agriculture Iliyasu Aliyu Gital assured farmers of the timely distribution of fertilisers and other inputs, pledging full implementation of approved interventions.

Meanwhile, the state government has distributed 40 new tractors, heavy-duty equipment and motorcycles to farmers under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) programme, supported by the World Bank.

Governor Mohammed said the initiative underscores his administration’s commitment to agricultural modernisation, environmental protection and improved rural livelihoods.

He described ACReSAL as a critical intervention designed to address environmental and climate-related challenges, including unpredictable weather patterns, land degradation, prolonged dry seasons and flooding.

According to him, the deployment of modern agricultural machinery will ease farmers’ burdens and accelerate mechanised farming and large-scale land restoration across the state.

In his remarks, Bauchi State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Kabir, said the equipment was procured to strengthen programme implementation, boost productivity and promote environmentally sustainable farming practices.

Under a collaboration between ACReSAL and the Al’Muhibbah Foundation, 600 women were trained in home gardening and provided with starter packs to enhance self-reliance.

Kabir said each beneficiary received seeds, fertiliser, pesticide and a cash grant of N50,000 to begin small-scale agricultural activities.

He explained that the initiative aims to empower women economically, improve household nutrition and promote sustainable home-based food production.
