Preparations are in top gear as Bauchi Polo Club comes alive ahead of the much anticipated 2023 Bauchi Annual Polo Tournament that is billed to gallop off with fanfare from July 22 to July 27, 2024 as the second phase of the glamorous national polo tour moves to higher gears.

Bauchi Polo Captain, Bello Ismaila Sam Pam who disclosed this in a phone chat from Bauchi, told Polo Royals that the city that is home to the foremost Yankari Games Reserves, is bracing for one of its grandest moments as all the tournament committees are working toward hosting the prestigious event.

It was gathered that host teams are perfecting strategies to vie for all the major titles at stake during the polo extravaganza, assuring that all participating teams, polo enthusiasts and tourists would have a most memorable time in the ancient Hausa Kingdom.

Major titles at stake include the Governor’s Cup which is the event’s biggest reward. Other prizes are the Emir of Bauchi Cup, Emir of Katagum Cup and the low-goal Sarki Fulani Cup.

Checks revealed glittering subsidiary prizes like the Tafawa Balewa Cup, played in the everlasting memory of Nigeria’s Prime Minister, the Beginners Cup and the Veterans Cup would be carted home by lucky winners during the glamorous festival.

Polo Royals report that the event’s biggest prize, the Governor Cup final this year, pitching title holders, Jos Malcomines and Bauchi Dokaji teams, was a nerve-wracking duel that went straight to the wire after a 4-4 scoreline after two epic games. The eventual toss of the coin gave Nauchi Dokaji the top prize.
