The Bauchi State Government has embarked on the reconstruction of the private residence of the first democratically elected governor of the state, late Abubakar Tatari Ali, in his hometown, Zaki Local Government Area.
Late Tatari Ali was elected governor of Bauchi State in 1979, holding office until the military coup of 31st December 1983 of late General Muhammadu Buhari. He died on 28 May 1993 at the age of 64.
State Commissioner of Information, Usman Shehu Usman, who led a team of journalists on a media tour of ongoing and completed projects of the Governor Bala Mohammed administration across the state, explained that the project was awarded by the governor during a visit to Zaki town and directed the reconstruction, citing the need to restore the dignity of the late governor’s residence, which had fallen into disrepair.
Usman said that the project also includes a monument with a tomb, museum, a befitting mosque and an Islamic school, reflecting the late governor’s commitment to both good governance and religious matters.
In his remarks, the contractor handling the project, Architect Jibrin Mahmoud, said that construction work has reached nearly 90 per cent completion and is expected to be completed within a month.
