The impeachment of Gadi followed the adoption of the report of a 7-man panel constituted by the State’s Chief Judge, Sabo Suleiman Darazo, to investigate impeachable offences levelled against him by the state’s lawmakers.

The nomination of Gamawa was contained in a letter forwarded to the House by Yuguda  requesting the lawmakers to confirm the  nomination of Gamawa as a replacement for the immediate past deputy governor on the excuse that since he has been removed, there was need to replace him immediately since it will not augur well for the government to allow the number two seat to remain vacant for long.

After his confirmation, Gamawa, while pledging to carry out his new assignment with the same vigour, revealed that he was surprised by the nomination as he did not vie for the seat which he said he learnt was contested by six people.

Gamawa was shortly after, sworn-in as the deputy governor by the state’s Chief Judge, at a brief ceremony at the Government House. The ceremony was attended by Yuguda and other government functionaries and politicians.

In his address, Governor Isa Yuguda said the appointment of Gamawa followed a transparent and democratic process, stressing that it was necessary to fill the vacate position following the removal of Gadi so as not to create a vacuum.

Speaking of the new deputy governor, Yuguda said, “he proved to be a patriotic and committed leader while serving as the Speaker. He doesn’t operate as a one-man show. His choice is based on merit and not on any other consideration. He has in the last ten years, acquired knowledge and experience in the act of governance.”

However, in a swift reaction to the removal of the deputy governor, the state’s chairman of the ANPP, Alhaji Sani Shehu, described the impeachment as unlawful, arguing that by defecting to another party, the 17 lawmakers have lost their mandate and could therefore not impeach the deputy governor.
