Bauchi State government has relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed on the Yelwa axis of Bauchi Local Government Area to 12 hours from 6pm to 6 am.

The government in a press release signed by the Chief of Staff, Dr Aminu Hassan Gamawa, said it deemed it fit to relax the curfew since “Normalcy has been restored to the affected areas.”

The review, Gamawa said, was to allow law-abiding citizens to go about their normal businesses while the government would continue to monitor the situation in order to ensure that peaceful coexistence reigns not only in the affected areas but also in all parts of Bauchi State.

“The efforts of security agencies, traditional institutions and religious bodies toward canvassing for peace and peaceful coexistence are hereby appreciated,” the release said.

The curfew was imposed following the civil unrest of Friday in Kagadama, Tsakani and Lushi in the Bauchi Local Government Area.

The state Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda, had said that it was a fight over a lady between two rival youth groups that caused the clash, which claimed lives and property.
