Governor Mohammed Abubakar has promised to maintain the good relationship existing between his administration and labour unions.

He made the promise in Bauchi while speaking at the opening ceremony of an extraordinary National Governing Council (NGC) meeting of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE).

"I am happy to say that the relationship between the government and the labour unions has been cordial since the inception of this administration. I assure you that we will maintain the cordial relationship so that we will continue to enjoy industrial harmony in the state," he said.

He added‎ that his administration has done much to sanitise the state’s civil service from its earlier state saying that he inherited a civil service with overloaded workforce and a huge wage bill that could not be justified.

"This necessitated us to set up various committees towards sanitising the system aimed at improving service delivery to the entire people of the state," he added.

While speaking, the AUPCTRE National President, Comrade S.A Adelegan said that the meeting will avail the union to analyse it’s strength, challenges and proffer workable solutions.

"It also avails the union the opportunity to critically evaluate government activities at all levels as they affect our teeming membership, the world of work and the citizenry in general," he said.

In his welcome address, the chairman AUPCTRE Bauchi chapter‎, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim welcome the participants to the state and commended the national leadership for choosing Bauchi for the meeting.

 

He said that the meeting is coming at a time when workers are being faced with various challenges regarding their salaries saying that where the salaries are even paid, it does not satisfy half of the workers needs due to inflation.
