Bayelsa by-elections: 3 policemen drown in Southern Ijaw River
They were said to be on their way to the place of assignment when the boat capsized
Three unnamed policemen are said to have drowned on their way to Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa state.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on the eve of the Saturday Senatorial By-election holding across two districts in the state.
The deceased policemen were said to be on their way to the place of assignment in riverine areas of Southern Ijaw local government when the boat capsized.
Commissioner of Police in the State, Mike Okoli had told journalists yesterday that 5000 policemen were deployed for the by-elections into the vacant senatorial seat of Bayelsa West and Central.
Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat confirmed the incident, saying the actual number of casualty is not ascertained yet, but promised to update as soon as the figure of casualty is confirmed.
