Following commotion at the collation centre in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) adjourned the collation of results of the state’s governorship election.

Trouble started when party agents disagreed on the result from Brass Local Government Area, which was adopted at centre Monday morning.

As of Sunday night, Brass and Southern Ijaw LGAs were the only two of the eight local governments in Bayelsa whose results were yet to be declared.

On Sunday, the collation was adjourned to 12pm on Monday.

On Monday, resumption of collation of results started behind schedule.

Midway into the collation of results from Brass, aggrieved party agents started querying the figures being announced.

After the announcement of results, however, party agents including those of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) disagreed on the reported occurrence of violence in the local government.

It took the intervention of security officials to calm the situation.
