Bayelsa State Task Force on Implementation and Enforcement of the anti-open grazing law has impounded about 44 cows along a road in Yenagoa, the state capital.

The task force led by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, David Alagoa, in the company with security operatives impounded the cows from their minders around restricted areas. 

Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that the herders and owners of the cows were not arrested.

Last month, the state livestock management committee had charged three herders for violating the state anti-open grazing law. 

Farmers in the state have lamented over the alleged destruction of their farmlands by cattle, urging the government to ensure that the anti-open grazing is totally enforced to guide against conflicts. 

Recently, some farmers along Tombia-Amassoma Road in Okutukutu, a community in Yenagoa, while counting their losses said the invasion of their farmlands by herders was affecting their incomes.
