Bayelsa indigenes in Malaysia appeal for scholarship

Speaking to Daily Trust, the indigenes said that the foreign scholarship programme which started in 2009 has assisted in increasing the state’s manpower and reduced youth restiveness.
One of the affected students, Kelvin Otele, and an education consultant to Bayelsa State government on the programme in Malaysia, Mr. Dabbey Graham, said that the affected students were suffering, calling on the government to assist them.
Graham said: “I commend the initiative of Bayelsa State government on giving scholarship to students. The peace being enjoyed in the Niger-Delta area in the recent years is a dividend of this initiative. Government should cater more for the beneficiaries. At this moment, some students are suffering here as their allowances are not paid.”
Otele claimed that many of the students were owed over 12 months allowances, saying that though they appreciated the government for training them, the programme should not be allowed to end in shame and agony.
