Bayelsa: Labour begs FG to refund withdrawn Paris Club Refund

The organised labour in Bayelsa State has called on the Federal Government to without delay release the N24.16 billion Paris Club Refund due to the state which was earlier withdrawn.

The organised labour said the state government had shown commitment to pay all outstanding arrears and had made a pronouncement to that effect and that workers were eagerly waiting for payment.

In a joint statement in Yenagoa, state Chairmen of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), John Ndiomu, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Tari Dounana, and Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), Eke Yeladou, said, “We appreciate the Federal Government for its effort to ensure the funds are used for the settlement of workers’ outstanding salaries.

“We, therefore, call on the federal authorities to release the Paris Club Refund due to Bayelsa State without further delay. Labour calls on workers to be patient and law abiding as all efforts are geared towards resolving the issue at stake.”

Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, recently accused the Federal Government of withdrawing N24.16bn Paris Club Refund initially released to the state, and added that the reason for the recall was not clear.
