Bayelsa State will today unveil a cutting-edge table tennis hall, “The Fortress,” in Yenagoa, as part of its continued investment in sports infrastructure. Governor Senator Douye Diri is expected to officially commission the facility.

The new complex boasts a five-table hall, 150-seat spectator stand, lounge, restaurant, and changing rooms, offering athletes and fans a modern and comfortable environment.

According to a statement from the Bayelsa State Table Tennis Association (BYSTTA), the commissioning of The Fortress reflects the rising popularity and competitiveness of table tennis in the South-South region. The facility underscores the state government’s commitment to providing world-class amenities to help athletes perform at their best in national and international competitions.

In addition to the facility launch, BYSTTA, under the leadership of Ama-Ebi Ebikpolade Stow, will also unveil its technical team and the official squad that will represent Bayelsa at the 22nd National Sports Festival—the Gateway Games 2024.

“This event promises to be a landmark occasion in the history of table tennis in Bayelsa State, marking a significant milestone in the sport’s development. The commissioning of The Fortress underscores the association’s commitment to providing world-class facilities for athletes and enthusiasts alike,” the statement read.
