Enyimba FC, two time African champions and other clubs like Heartland and Rangers International have to their credit a lot of continental experience having represented the country at different times.

Speaking to Trustsports recently in Abuja, the national team coach observed that his club’s management failed to understudy the more experienced clubs, a development which he said has contributed to Bayesla United’s unimpressive outing so far.

He explained that had it been the management took time to consult big clubs like Enyimba, the experience they had acquired while playing on the continent in the previous years would have added something positive to the efforts so far made by the club’s management.

Odigie noted that winning at the continental level goes far beyond what happens on the field of play as he said off the field, very important things come into play to give a club the desired victory.

“Part of the problem I think we have been faced with is the mistake of not consulting some of our more experienced colleagues to tap from their experience. Had it been our management got in touch with a club like Enyimba which till date is the most successful Nigerian club side, we would have been able to gain useful knowledge on how to go about things”

The coach maintained that failure of his club’s management to make the necessary consultation has been a serious setback for the club which lacks the experience to succeed on the continent.

“ We have not been playing badly but most times we have fallen victim of continental politics and this is where I believe had our management consulted the clubs with the vital experience, we would have done better than we did” he stated

 “Nobody owns monopoly of knowledge. We must be ready to ask questions and seek relevant information” he stressed.
