Three suspected thieves who specialize in burgling churches in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State are currently in police cell after they were nabbed by members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) while trying to rob a Pentecostal church in the state capital.

It was gathered that one of the suspects, Sampson Solomon, 26, was arrested by men of the state VGN inside the auditorium of Overflowing Grace Ministries, while trying to steal speakers belonging to the church.

On sighting the men of the vigilante, he attempted to flee but was caught after a hot chase. He later led the vigilante members to arrest other accomplices – Vincent and one King Koko – while others are still at large.

Solomon, who confessed to breaking and stealing in churches in the state capital, said one of the members of the church had given them the tips on how to rob the church, adding that a member of the syndicate was the buyer of their stolen goods.

Confirming the arrest of the suspects, the Commander of VGN in Bayelsa State, Mr Tolumobofa Akpoebibo Jonathan, said the suspects were arrested around 2:00 am on Wednesday, following a tip off, adding that the arrested gang specializes in robbing different churches in the state capital, are now in the police custody for further investigation and prosecution.
