Baze University marked its 2026 Founder’s Day with activities that included an inter-faculty debate and student performances.
The event, held on March 11 at the university in Abuja, featured students from different faculties debating the topic: “Investment in Education is the Most Sustainable Strategy for Nation Building: Myth or Imperative.”
Speaking at the programme, the Founder and Chancellor of the university, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, reflected on the institution’s development since it was established in 2011.
He said education plays an important role in national development and encouraged students to maintain values such as integrity and critical thinking.
Baba-Ahmed also urged students to pursue academic and personal development while encouraging lecturers to remain committed to teaching and research.
The Vice-Chancellor, Jamila Shuara, said the annual Founder’s Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the university’s progress since its establishment.
According to her, the university has expanded from two faculties at inception to nine faculties and a College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Shuara added that the institution currently offers more than 100 accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with over 7,000 students enrolled and more than 4,500 graduates produced since its establishment.
She said the university also operates a teaching hospital and is planning to establish an aviation school at its Bwari campus.
The highlight of the event was the student debate, where the team supporting the motion emerged as the winner. Maryam Muktar was named the Best Speaker of the competition.
The programme also featured spoken-word and poetry presentations by students.
