The Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) Nigeria has charged its newly inducted Fellows to uphold the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and corporate governance in their professional and personal conduct.

The President and Chairman of Governing Council of the Institute, Otunba Adetunji Oyebanji who spoke at the investiture of new fellows noted that true leadership is measured not by power or position but by the ability to inspire others and build lasting legacies.

According to him, the conferment of Fellowship status was not only an honour but also a call to greater responsibility in advancing sound governance practices across Nigeria’s public and private sectors.

He said, “The CIoD Nigeria confers Fellowship status annually on deserving members who have demonstrated excellence in governance and leadership.

 

“Tonight’s awardees have been diligently screened by the Fellows and Awards Committee led by our Immediate Past President, Alhaji Tijjani Borodo, and found worthy to wear the prestigious titles of Distinguished Fellows, Honorary Fellows, and Fellows of the Institute.”

 

He explained that the Institute recognises three categories of Fellowship — Fellow, Honorary Fellow, and Distinguished Fellow — conferred on individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Institute, their industries, and the nation.

 

While congratulating the new inductees, the CIoD President reminded them that their new status comes with expectations of exemplary conduct, deeper participation, and commitment to the ideals of the Institute.

 

“As leaders of the Institute, we expect more participation and commitment to the cause of the CIoD. You must be worthy ambassadors of the Institute, champions of good corporate governance, and models of ethical leadership in your respective sectors,” he said.

 

He emphasised that the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria has, since its inception, remained at the forefront of promoting sound governance and ethical leadership practices. According to him, the induction of new Fellows reaffirms the Institute’s mission to cultivate a culture of excellence and accountability in corporate leadership.

 

The Fellows’ Committee Chairman stated that as directors and business leaders, “we are called to create lasting impact, to lead with purpose, to inspire others, and to leave behind footprints that generations can follow.”

 

 

 

Chairman of Sunu Assurance Nigeria Plc, Kyari Bukar, in his lecture titled, ‘From Vision to Legacy: Cultivating Leadership that Transcends Generations’ charged the Directors “to build leadership that transcends generations through mentorship and institutionalisation.”

 

“We must learn from international best practices while adapting them to local realities as the true measure of leadership is not in title held, wealth amassed, but lives touched, institutions strengthened, and values preserved,” he said.
