Disclosing this in Ibadan on Wednesday, the commissioner explained that Globacom was in partnership with the state government to beautify all the interchanges in the state capital including the median. To this end, the state government had issued a seven-day ultimatum to commercial vehicle operators at Iwo Road interchange to relocate immediately, stressing that the determination of government to rebrand the state in terms of clean environment was not a fluke.

The Environment commissioner declared that ‘’calling Oyo State a pace-setter was not a mistake’’. Aborode who threatened that the failure of the commercial vehicle operators to move to the Sanyo area which was allocated to them when the former chairman of the state National Union of Road Transport Workers [NURTW], Alhaji Abdul Lateef Akinsola [a.k.a.Tokyo] was in power, would lead to total war. He declared that, ‘’at the expiration of the deadline the ministry of environment would not hesitate to move out the bulldozers to the affected area’’.

Specifically, he stated that his ministry had already summoned the current chairman of the NURTW in the state, Alhaji Lateef Salako a.k.a. Eleweomo to an emergency meeting with the state governor, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala over the matter.

‘’The commercial vehicles operators are at liberty to select any area of their choice. We are urging the NURTW leadership in the state to talk with the commercial vehicle operators on the need to yield to the call and move out of the interchange before the expiration of the deadline. Failure by the commercial vehicle operators to move out of the interchange will lead to head on collision’’, the Commissioner reiterated.

But he remarked that even though both Lagos and Kwara States had committed huge sums of money to the beautification of their state capitals, “Oyo State government is getting the service free of charge. We only need to provide the necessary conducive environment for successful implementation, we are not going to commit any financial support to the exercise,’’ he explained.
