Nine girls have emerged as Universities Carnival Queens to champion campaigns on creating awareness and enlightening people on cancer.
The organisers in Abuja, said the pageant was meant to produce an overall winner including two zonal and six regional queens who will take the cancer awareness campaign from school to school.
The president of the Nigerian Universities Queens, Raymond Jefferson said the event was necessitated by the organisation’s worries over the spread of the disease in the country.
Raymond said “We want to contribute our quota by taking the campaigns to various universities in the country. The various Queens would take the campaign to the universities in the regions which they represent.
He added that “We will also have a massive carnival in the country, bring all the universities under one umbrella to sensitise the public on the dangers of the disease.”
Okoroafor Chinaza, who emerged as the national queen said she will do her best to intensify the campaign against cancer in the country.
