Before Sowore burns the country

Sahara Reporters publisher Omoyele Sowore

The return of EndSARS protest in Abuja by Sowore, the publisher of online media, Sahara Reporters and his hired urchins has raised serious question on the real motive of the protest. The protest  came at a time the country is yet to recover from the aftermath of 20th October hijacked protests which resulted in the loss  of lives and properties across the country.

While the country licks its wound and counts losses, Soware was at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, Nigeria Police Headquarters and National Assembly leading protest. It took the intervention of police officers to disperse the protesting youths lead by Sowore.

After the government yielded  to the demands of the protesters, Sowore should honourably wait for the newly created SWAT whose personnel  are undergoing training. There is no need for further protests which often ends up in chaos.

The country has suffered enough and Sowore should tarry awhile not to plunge it into another needless chaos. He should also remember that his right ends where other people’s rights begin.

Agreed we practice democracy which allows every citizen to enjoy fundamental human right, however, there are limitations to these rights. One cannot hide under the right of freedom of association to instigate or promote violence. Sowore knows this. His actions have ridiculed the country.

We are not in Hobbes state. The country has set of rules and regulations, institutions and channels through which anyone  can forward his complaints or grievances.

The government should quickly arrest and make him to face the laws of the land.  There is no reason for Sowore and his co-travellers to continue to cause discomfort  to other law-abiding Nigerians.
