This was contained in a statement by the governor’s chief press secretary, Dr. Ibraheem Dooba, which said Governor Bello didn’t come to office with the intention to probe the previous administration but the N2.9 billion secured as loan by former governor Aliyu on the eve of his administration’s departure must be returned to government treasury.
“They took this loan on the eve of their departure.  And as was customary with that administration, they did nothing with the money. We can’t, in good conscience, accept this brazen theft of  the people’s wealth”.
“You can’t collect a loan on behalf of the people and share it among yourselves.  That’s literally what they did.  They simply raised a list and allocated money to those on the list.  The office of the SSG for example, was given N600 million.  What he would do with the money, the records did not say.  Well, we want our money back.  The money belongs to the people. The governor took an oath to protect the people and by the grace of God, that is what he’s going to do”, the statement said.
It further stated that as part of the commitment of the present administration to provide potable water, the governor had visited the State Water Board for an on the spot assessment in Minna and a Dam in Kontagora.  On the problem of electricity, the statement said, the government had started an arrangement to rent a power plant from overseas to provide regular electricity before a permanent solution is found.
Efforts to speak with the former spokesperson of the  immediate past government, Isreal Ebije, were futile as his telephone line was not going through while a text massage sent to him was not replied and other officials declined comment.
