The quest to further quicken the tempo of development in the nation’s capital city of Abuja recently received a boost when the FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello, in his characteristic proactive manner, decided to reposition the Administration’s organogram, which has all the potentials of keeping the engine of development perpetually humming.  This came by way of the appointment of Adamu Hussaini Jibrin as the new Director of Land Administration and Dr. Isa Jalo to take charge of the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS).
That is not all as the circular issued by the FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr. Babatope Ajakaiye to this effect dated August 10, 2016 also disclosed that the leadership of the Departments of Parks & Recreation as well as Development Control, were equally affected by this development.
The new Directors of Parks & Recreation as well as Development Control are Ali Alhaji Ukele and Mukhtar Galadima Usman respectively. Others are Imande  Victoria–Director, Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD); Obiechina Helen Nneka- Director, Resettlement & Compensation; Ahmed Zalihau-Director, Urban & Regional Planning; Dr. Okoroukwu Humphery- Director, Public Health; Mrs. Jogai Cerie- Director, Archives & History Bureau and Olaloye Marufu Omoniyi- Director, Facilities Maintenance & Management.
Abubakar Yahaya is now the Secretary, Urban & Regional Planning Tribunal, while Mrs. Ohamma Perpetual Ndawii now takes charge as the Deputy Director (Planning & Resettlement) in the Resettlement & Compensation Department.
The circular also directed that all Deputy Directors currently in the Departments of Land Administration and Development Control should report to the Department of Establishment and Training for further posting instructions.
In the same vein, the former Directors of Land Administration, AGIS, Parks & Recreation, Facilities Maintenance & Management, Urban & Regional Planning, Development Control and Ibiang Okoi Ikpi of Facilities Maintenance & Management are to await further posting; while former Deputy Director/Land Registrar in Land Administration Department is to report to Legal Services Secretariat for posting. These changes are with immediate effect.
For those who are conversant with the high octane wuru-wuru nay mago-mago (read corruption) in these departments affected by this recent development, the change in the leadership structure is long overdue. At a point in time, the rot in the system became so entrenched that worried Nigerians simply threw up their hands in utter despair and virtual helplessness that it may take eternity for the Augean stables of these departments to be cleaned and for sanity to be restored.
So, Nigerians are not surprised that the Minister has finally taken the bulls by the horns by this drastic nay bold step geared towards ensuring the restoration of fiscal responsibility and accountability to a system that has long been held captive by the forces of retrogression immersed in the putrefying waters of corruption. With these changes, the hydra-headed monster of corruption that has long stymied or arrested the development of the FCTA is being tamed or better still, decapitated and Nigerians are happy about it.
With this laudable action of restructuring the machinery of governance in the FCT, the duo of the Minister and the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ajakaiye have demonstrated unprecedented heroism coupled with inspiring bravery in all ramifications that is worthy of emulation by other public functionaries that see leadership position as an avenue to amass illicit wealth at the expense of service to the nation.
At least considering the mountain of financial malfeasance associated with the immediate past Jonathan Administration that daily assails the sensibilities of Nigerians courtesy of the massive investigation by the nation’s anti-corruption watchdog, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Bello and Ajakaiye, who are on the same page with their principal, President Buhari, have exhibited a leadership which exudes perception or better still, a palpable will to govern by adumbrating clear ideas and principles, which exemplify an ethical disposition and a willingness to pursue these ends, even against the current of moral and ethical pervasiveness that hitherto prevalent in the society.
Nigerians are in harmony in their opinion that after several years of persistent maladministration occasioned by the twin evils of corruption and moral degeneracy, it is time that the cycle of political corruption aided by an irresponsible bureaucracy be broken or mortally attenuated, which is what the incumbent Buhari administration and its appointees like the FCT Minister are currently doing to the admiration of a high preponderance of the citizenry.
Another commendable act of the Minister that majority of FCT residents are shouting ecstatic ‘’oooohs’’ and ‘’aaaahs’’ in appreciation is in the area of development of satellite towns; fixing of several roads in the territory and provision of potable water cum healthcare facilities in communities such as Damangaza, which was nearly hit by a severe epidemic if not for the roll out of timely interventionist programmes of the minister.
Contrary to the erroneous insinuation in certain quarters that the present Bello led FCT Administration has not make its presence felt, especially in the areas of administrative wizardry or competence and provision of developmental projects, it is increasingly becoming clearer by the day that the administration has tattooed its impressive credentials in the consciousness of not only majority of residents of the territory, but Nigerians as a whole. The recent appointment of new Directors for its agencies and parastatals is a veritable indication that the productive synergy between both Bello and Ajakaiye, forged and conditioned on the furnace of integrity and hardwork, has corrected such malice-induced erroneous impression.
