WHY IS DELIVERANCE NECESSARY? Part 2
“But on mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.”
Obadiah 1:17

“Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.”
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr:
Who Needs Deliverance?
First, second or third generation believers need deliverance; that is to say your ancestors were idol worshippers. Also those who have been involved in sex outside marriage or committed abortion need deliverance. You need deliverance if your life is not moving forward or you are actually declining. Others who need deliverance are: those who are stagnating, those who are struggling financially, those who are struggling to keep a relationship, those who are finding it difficult to get married, those experiencing turbulence in marriage, those who perceive they are bound in one area or another as well as those who are addicted to one thing or another.
Three things happen in comprehensive deliverance according to this Scripture:
Obadiah 1:17 (AKJ) But on mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. The word possess is translated from the Hebrew word yarash which means to drive out previous occupants, to seize, succeed.
(Apostles) “But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, and there shall be a sanctuary; and the house of Jacob shall take for an inheritance those that took them for an inheritance.”
1. Get Rid Of Sin, and Reverse The Curse (The Cause Of Bondage). Deliverance (escape) is in the church. Only those who escape to the church will be delivered from the wicked grip of Satan and his host. Only those who escape sin and its consequences enjoy their inheritance. Notice the relationship between holiness and deliverance. Deliverance can only occur in a holy atmosphere.
To successfully get rid of the devil and be free of his afflictions, you have to first get rid of the grounds or platform on which the devil operates – sin and transgression.
A good deliverance session does not just involve screaming on devils but must deeply investigate and repent of ancestral and personal sins.
A thorough pre-deliverance ministration counseling that examines every area from ancestral to personal sins, issues and all must first be done if ministration is to be helpful. Partial ministration leads to frustration. There is the tendency to focus only on existing problems and overlook other equally important but silent issues. God wants us to be free indeed.
And after one has been delivered, it is imperative that one stays away from sin completely. Jesus would often say, “Go and sin no more, lest a worst thing befalls you.” The curse over your life is reversed, in Jesus name!
2. Get Rid Of The Devil (Enforcer of The Curse) Many preachers have preached and written that the devil is irrelevant once you are born again but Jesus did not treat the devil as inconsequential. He did not tell us to ignore him but rather He gave us power to get rid of him and his demons. Demons don’t leave unless someone casts them out.
Jesus cast out devils – from the mad man of Gadara, The daughter of Abraham that was bound for 18 years as well as the epileptic child. Mark 9:17-18 “Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; 18And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.”
Jesus gave power to the twelve and then to the seventy to cast out devils.
He empowered the church to cast out devils – Mark 16:16
3. Possess your possessions
The word possess is translated from the Hebrew word yarash which also means to forcefully seize. Jesus said the same thing in the New Testament when he said in Matthew 11:12, “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.” A vital component of deliverance is to forcefully recover what has been stolen from you by the enemy (the devil and his agents) not by physical means but through targeted prayers and fasting; using the Word of God. We don’t fight flesh and blood.
It is through spiritual warfare you recover what you have lost – health, soundness of mind, peace, joy, possessions, position, honour, etc. Compensation follows deliverance. Restoration follows deliverance. Deliverance is not complete unless there is recovery and restoration of lost assets and possessions.
When the curse is reversed, you recover what you have lost; you come out of bondage. You cease to labour and start to enjoy the blessings of God upon your life.
When the curse is reversed, you begin to receive what you have been denied. When the curse is reversed, impossibilities become possibilities; despair gives way to hope.
When the curse is reversed, frustration gives way to celebration because dreams become reality. I have witnessed dramatic changes in the lives of people after we ministered deliverance to them.
Can you imagine what would have happened if Adam or even Eve had cast the devil out in the Garden of Eden? They will not have lost their relationship with God. They would not have lost the Garden of Eden and all the provision in it.
Under similar circumstances on the other hand, Jesus overcame the temptation of the devil and cast him out. See how successful the ministry of Jesus was and is today!
The Bible says upon mount Zion, there shall be deliverance and holiness, and the house of Jacob shall possess their possession. In other words, until you get the devil behind you, there is no real holiness; and you cannot possess your possessions. As long as you keep allowing the devil space in your life, you will not enjoy your life as a believer. The phrase to ‘possess their possession’ is the same Hebrew word ‘to succeed’. You will have to get rid of the devil if you truly want to succeed.
Have a beautiful week!
