Benin-Lokoja dualisation: Senate decries slow pace of work

The Senate Committee on Works has berated Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company over the slow pace of work on Section 3 (Auchi-Ehor) of the Benin-Lokoja dualisation project.

Speaking during the inspection of the road, the works committee Chairman, Sen. Adamu Aliero, said the committee was not satisfied with the pace of work by the company.

Sen. Aliero said the on-the-spot assessment of the road was to ensure that whatever fund was appropriated was commensurate with the work done.

He said, “But we are certainly not impressed with the progress of work by Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company on Section 3; which is between Auchi and Ehor.

“Other contractors handling Sections 4 and 2 have done beyond 57 and 67 per cent work respectively, but Dantata and Sawoe handling Section 3 is still struggling with 18 per cent.

“I do not see any reason why government will appropriate money and the contractors will not do the work.

“The project is being augmented with Sukuk fund. This year government may likely float another Sukuk fund for critical roads like this one. We hope that when next we come the percentage of completion would have increased.”

On the Ewu-Agbor road, Aliero commended Setraco Construction Company for the pace of work despite being owed.

He urged the contractors to double their pace of work as the rainy season would soon set in, and assured that the committee would ensure that the outstanding money owed the company would be paid by government.
