Benue APC chair returns to secretariat amid tight security

The embattled chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Austin Agada, on Tuesday returned to his office amid tight security stationed in the premises of the party secretariat in Makurdi.

Agada’s return followed a High Court ruling which on Monday vacated an interim order restraining him from parading himself as the state chairman of the APC.

He was on February 2 ordered by another state High Court presided over by Justice Lilian Tsumba in the Aliade area of the state to stop parading himself as the APC state chairman.

But, the Chief Judge of Benue State, Justice Maurice Ikpambese, while presiding over the matter on Monday, ruled that the restraining order was granted in error as the judge did not have the jurisdiction to order the interim injunction.

Agada, who briefed journalists at the party secretariat on his return, thanked the judiciary for restoring order.

“The past few weeks have witnessed feverish but unnecessary clandestine plots for the soul of the leadership of the APC in Benue State.

“We reiterate our support for the APC administration of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia. We call for synergy amongst all party members and those in public offices to collectively deliver APC’s campaign promises to the long-suffering people of Benue State,” he said.

Daily Trust reports that Benjamin Omakolo, who was appointed last week as acting chairman by the state governor on Monday, insisted that he remains the rightful occupant of the party’s foremost seat in the state despite the court ruling.
