The Benue State Universal Education Board (SUBEB) has began massive campaign to increase enrolment of pupils into public primary schools just before a new academic year begins in September.

Chairman of the Board, Rev Philip Tachin, said the state had seen sharp decline in public school enrolment in past years.

"A peep into our school enrolment figures in our basic schools for the 2016/2017 academic session shows that there are only 431, 825 pupils. This however shows a sharp increase considering the enrolment of 321, 420 in 2014 under the past administration before our government came into power in 2015," he said.

At a townhall meeting in Makurdi, he said different meetings of stakeholders have identified factors against the sector to include  negligence on the part of government, inadequate concern for teachers welfare and abandoned school structures amongst others would be tackled to enhance the survival of the public primary education in the state.
