At least fifteen players of Benue State origin are currently competing in the colours of other clubs like Delta Force, Sunshine Stars, First Deepwater, First Bank, FCT Angels and AHIP Queens of Kano.

Speaking to Fever Pitch yesterday, some of the players said there is no place like home so in as much as they enjoy playing for clubs outside their state, they would derive more satisfaction competing in the colours of Benue State.

Iwuave Msuur who plays for Delta Force said the time has come for Benue State to think of floating a formidable women basketball team that would attract those of them who are playing for other clubs.

She said a lot of talents abound in the state but the absence of a female basketball club has compelled them to look for greener pastures elsewhere.

Msuur said: “I am not happy that Benue State cannot boast of a formidable female basketball club. Some of us want to compete for Benue State but it’s rather unfortunate that we cannot do so because there is no club.

“I want to call on the state government to do something in this regard. There is no place like home”, she stated.

Her team mate, Asugh Vera also called on the state government to float a women basketball club that would provide them with the opportunity to compete for the state.

“We want Benue State government to do something urgent about our request. We want to go back home because home is home. We like to play for other clubs that can pay for our services but there will be greater joy, if we play for our State.

Ojoma of Sunshine Stars also added a voice to the plea for a state team when she said “We want the government of Benue State to give us a formidable basketball club. We are highly rated and that’s why we are playing for some of the best clubs in the league.

“ No club will sign a bad player. If we are sought for by the top clubs in the league, it means if brought together, we can easily dominate the league”.
