An internally displaced woman who recently delivered a set of triplets in Benue State has lost the babies due to poor maternal care.
The IDP, Kongo Mzamber, 30, was said to have delivered triplets who couldn’t survive due to some complications despite efforts made by medical practitioners to save the babies.
Mzamber, who hails from Tse Gbuku in Sengev Council Ward of Gwer West, was displaced by armed invaders who killed many people, displaced others and also destroyed valuable property in her now deserted village.
Chairman of the Agagbe IDP camp, Terna Ibaah Jacob, told our correspondent in Makurdi that Mzamber was pregnant until Wednesday when she started complaining of stomach pain and could not be taken to hospital immediately due to economic hardship.
Jacob said, “She was not taken to the hospital immediately so her situation became worse by Thursday and then she was rushed to St Francis Xavier Primary Health Care in Agagbe where they did all the examinations and ordered that she be taken to Naka General Hospital.”
The camp chairman, however, said that the woman was recuperating in the hospital at the time of filing this story, while stressing the need for improved access to maternal care for pregnant women living at the IDP camps.
