The Benue State-owned transport company, Benue Links Nigeria Limited (BLNL), in collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), has intercepted and rescued 19 trafficked children within the past two weeks.

Alexander Fanafa, the General Manager of Benue Links, made this disclosure over the weekend during a courtesy visit to the correspondents chapel office of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue Council, in Makurdi.

Fanafa explained that the 19 children were rescued separately at different locations served by Benue Links and have all been handed over to NAPTIP for safe custody and for further investigation of the traffickers.

“Last week alone, we recovered five trafficked children en-route to Jos. The previous week, we rescued 11 from Lagos, all handed over to NAPTIP. Just days ago, we found two and then one more and reunited the children with their parents,” he said.

The Benue Links GM further explained that the transport company has been working closely with security agencies and stakeholders to prevent human trafficking through its extensive transport network.
