The Police in Benue State have arrested six people suspected for robbing a family in Vandekiya Local Government Area of the state and raping their daughter during their illicit operation.
State Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, who visited the raped victim at the hospital in Vandekiya, vowed that the law must take its course on the suspects involved in the crime.
Makama explained that the suspects; Terfa Ushahemba, 25, Wayo Francis, 21, Iorkye Terkaa, 20, Vue Stephen, 20, Tersoo Apeize, 22 and Simon Terna, 24, had on last Monday at 12:15am broke into their victim’s home.
He said the suspects robbed the family of their monies, valuables and raped their 21-year-old daughter in the presence of her parents and equally inflicted deep machete cuts on the father, mother and the girl.
The police commissioner noted that the victims were still recuperating in the hospital when he paid on-the spot-assessment to ascertain things for himself while commending his men for promptly acting on the receipt of distress call by mobilising to the robbery scene where the suspects were apprehended.
Speaking to Daily Trust in an interview, the oldest of the suspects, Ushahemba, who is a teacher at Unique Nursery and Primary school, Vandekiya, confessed to have committed the crime with the five others.
Ushahemba, however blamed the devil for their deadly actions.
"I was with my friends drinking at a joint that evening into the night when one of them opted to take us somewhere. We went to the house of our victim, collected N20, 000 from the man of the house, we raped the woman and machete them. It is the work of the devil," the suspect alleged.
